Digital!

This is my first whirl at the whole digital thing, just playing around with some collage.  Was fun to do, forced me to put my pencil down for once, and think differently about how I work.  I always find I learn the most from the projects least tailored to my way of working.  Hope you all enjoy!

The project was to create a creature, so I put together a pretty tame beast, a raven head, wolf torso, and tiger hind.  Made a little lady for him too.

Wax.

Here is one of my envelopes for a set of artist's cards.  I put some beeswax over a stained envelope, singed the edges here and there, transferred an old trade card motif, stamped the 'I' into it, and voila.  More to come once I finish up some of the cards, which are a series of madonnas.

Some fun.

I did this as a process piece a while back, playing with Sam Weber's technique, using wax paper to resist water, moving the color around under it to create a great texture.  It was quick, easy, and fun (maybe an hours worth of work total). I'm looking forward to doing some more work like this in the future, I just have to figger out how to put my own spin on it.. .

Oh, and this piece doesn't exist anymore, it was sadly chopped up for an artists book that Ill put pictures up of once I get it back.  I think it looks better in it's current state, but you'll see soon enough.

Teatrio!

I found out today that my children's book made it into the Teatrio competition!  The book was based loosely on the game blind man's bluff (its like tag, but the person who is 'it' is blindfolded).  The idea behind it was a girl facing the unknown in her life, the fear of not knowing, and her learning to embrace that mystery in her life.  Her fears manifest, and as she embraces them, they change into her comforts, her calm, and guide her through her life.  I could go on and on, but that's the story in a nutshell, and here are a couple panels from it!  I'm really looking forward to working on my book for next year.  Enjoy!

I have succumbed, it seems time to start a blog for myself, so I can look back and see where I started my journey.  A place where I can put my thoughts, not the kind of thoughts I think, but rather the thoughts I put on a piece of paper with a pen, a pencil, a brush.  I guess this will be a place I can keep those thoughts, share them, and hopefully grow.  Since I haven't gotten myself into gear quite yet this week, I leave you with our favorite voluptuous, and usually confused model, Barbara, doing what she does best, thinking.  and being naked.
